Report on the TBrainBoost Workshop 3.0 “Sports science – (Research and Knowledge) Transfer under the umbrella of diversity”

From Wednesday, September 17, to Friday, September 19, 2025, the third workshop of the TBrainBoost project on the topic of “Sports Science – (Research and Knowledge) Transfer under the Umbrella of Diversity” took place as part of the 2025 “dvs Hochschultag: Sports Science: Diversity and Sustainability!?” The “Hochschultag” of the German Society of Sports Science (dvs) was hosted by the Institute for Sports Science at the University of Münster on the premises of the Schloss Münster from September 16 to 19.

Day 1 (September 17, 2025)

We kicked off the workshop with an opening session, where participants had an opportunity to connect and interact, setting them up for successful immersion in the workshop formats and shared reflections.

Workshop attendees then engaged in individual discussions and Q&As during the poster presentation session of the “dvs Hochschultag”. Diving deep into specific research topics and projects presented, or discussing potential for transfer into practical settings – the open, interactive poster presentation format provided excellent prompts for research and knowledge transfer related to TbrainBoost topics. Eric Eils and Sebastian Brueckner then facilitated a personalized reflection session for workshop attendees with the aim of synthesizing key take aways and follow-up ideas.

The keynote session for the first workshop day was presented by Bettina Rulofs from the German Sport University in Cologne and titled “Diversity and Inclusion in Sports”. The final session of day 1 was the Science Slam where three finalists presented their research in engaging short presentations on stage – with a large audience that included the general public in attendance. An innovative knowledge transfer format that was very well received. After this program highlight the day concluded with a networking dinner that also provided an opportunity for more personal reflexion and exchange.

Day 2 (September 18, 2025)

The day opened with a highly relevant “dvs Hochschultag” session presented by Claudia Voelcker-Rehage (University of Muenster) and Michael Brach (University of Muenster). Their symposium “Lessons Learned from EU Projects” highlighted multiple aspects to consider in making research to practice transfer successful. After a coffee break refreshment, participants attended the invited “dvs Hochschultag” symposium “Current Trends and Perspectives of Anti-Doping Research”. After a lunch break the program commenced with the keynote delivered by Rob Schinke (Laurentian University): “Psychological Health: Ecological Science and Practice Reciprocity in High-Performance Sport: One Vantage”. After that workshop attendees switched back to a small group format with content specifically created for the workshop 3.0. Sebastian Brueckner engaged participants in an interactive workshop focused on “Using Sport Psychology tools for leadership development in creating sustainable research and knowledge transfer”. An interactive session with another “Reflection of the Day” and then the conference social of the “dvs Hochschultag” rounded off day 2 of the workshop.

Day 3 (September 19, 2025)

The third and final day of the TbrainBoost workshop 3.0 was focused on immersing in real life knowledge transfer examples. Participants were able to learn about, interact with and discuss individually the following three scenarios of research and knowledge transfer:

  • (Research and knowledge) transfer in practical applications – Meeting the “dvs Hochschultag” sponsoring companies: movisens, simi, SmarTracks, wearm.ai
  • (Research and knowledge) transfer in practical sport related applications – Part 1 & 2 (Rugby, Beachhandball, girls soccer, performance diagnostics)

The sessions offered participants insights into necessary steps to successfully apply research results, methods and tools in real-life settings and community contexts. Following a coffee break refreshment the workshop concluded with a final Reflection of the Day session and closing remarks that highlighted the importance for interdisciplinary collaboration and work in making science to practice work successful in healthy aging.

We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Muenster, Institute for Sport and Exercise Science as organizer of the “2025 dvs Hochschultag”. Being able to align our workshop program with the conference schedule provided many inspiring exchanges for the TbrainBoost workshop attendees.

A special thanks to Eric Eils, Anna Hendker, and Sebastian Brueckner for their efforts in preparing, facilitating and organizing the event and making it a success.
