Training and Movement Science
Prof. Dr. Markus Gruber holds a chair of Training- and Movement Science at the University of Konstanz. He is the head of the Human Performance Research Centre (HPRC) and director of the Institute of Sports Technology (IfS STZ 1572). The HPRC serves as a centre for fundamental research and intervention studies, that address the prevention and treatment of major degenerative conditions associated with physical inactivity and ageing as well as the optimization of physical performance. His research team at HPRC consists of 5 PostDoc researchers and 5 PhD students who work in different labs on human neuromuscular and sensorimotor performance over the lifespan. Markus has more than 100 peer-reviewed research papers and authored more than 10 book chapters (Google Scholar: H-index >30, >5000 citations). Since more than 15 years he has been working on projects together with space agencies (ESA and NASA) to develop countermeasures for the detrimental effects of microgravity. He was part of the countermeasure expert group for ESA bed rest studies in Cologne and PI for projects on neuromuscular performance and sensorimotor control measurements in different bed rest studies and parabolic flight campaigns. He was PI of different research initiatives and research projects funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) related to human neuromuscular performance and health. Markus is a fellow and board member (Scientific Board) of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS).
