Five days of intensive learning, hands-on workshops, inspiring lectures, and international networking highlighted the rapid evolution of neuroscience and the growing importance of bridging research, technology, and clinical practice. Participants explored topics that are already transforming healthcare today, including artificial intelligence in medicine, digital rehabilitation solutions, exergaming, the neuroscience of movement, and healthy aging.
Organized within the framework of the TBrainBoost – ERA Talents for Boosting and Balancing Brain Circulation project, the summer school provided a unique platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and the development of innovative ideas among young researchers, students, and professionals from different countries and disciplines.
Led by Prof. Dr. Uroš Marušič (Science and Research Centre Koper, ZRS Koper) together with an international team of experts, the program connected participants directly with leading researchers from renowned institutions, including ETH Zürich, Stony Brook University, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and IRCCS San Camillo Hospital. Among the lecturers were Prof. Jeannette R. Mahoney, developer of the scientifically validated CatchU application for assessing fall risk in older adults, and Dr. Eduardo Bodnariuc Fontes, whose research focuses on the effects of physical exercise and brain stimulation on cognitive performance.
Beyond the scientific program, the summer school fostered collaboration, creativity, and networking. Participants worked together on emerging research challenges, exchanged ideas, developed new partnerships, and explored opportunities for future cooperation in the fields of neuroscience, digital health, and innovation.
Hosted in the inspiring Mediterranean setting of Piran, the event demonstrated the value of international and interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing future healthcare challenges. It also reflected one of the central goals of the TBrainBoost project: strengthening knowledge transfer between academia, healthcare, and industry while supporting the development of innovative solutions with real-world impact.
